RuneScape developer sells majority stake to NYC investor
Jagex, developer of the "number one online multiplayer game" RuneScape, confirms it has sold an additional 20 percent stake to New York venture capital firm Insight Venture Partners, essentially giving its US investor 55 percent Runescape Money ownship in the growing company.
Insight's interest in Jagex isn't exactly new: the firm first acquired its initial 35 percent stake in the Cambridgeshire developer way back in 2005. This investment was unveiled last February, when it was described as the means to help Jagex "accelerate growth of its development and publishing capabilities."
The controlling purchase, first realized last year but finally declared this week, does indeed put Jagex in US control, but the studio is expected to remain in Cambridge.
