What Should I Consider When Buying a Laptop Batter

Posted by ibm123str | 29 Jul, 2010

There are many laptop battery manufacturers, and even more retailers to buy your laptop battery from. However, your biggest concern in purchasing a laptop battery will be to choose the battery that fits your computer. For this you will need to know the make and model number of your laptop; if you don't know this offhand or don't have the necessary paperwork, check the inside of your laptop's battery compartment while the computer is off and unplugged. There you should find the model number, along with some other information. You may also find the part number of your laptop battery, located on the casing of the battery itself.

When buying a laptop battery, you will probably only have one or two choices that fit your computer. Choose the battery with the longest life available for your computer. There are several different kinds of laptop batteries; because the technologies of each are very different, a laptop must be designed specifically for the type of battery it uses. Most laptops are only designed to use one type of battery technology.

The nickel cadmium battery, known as NiCad (pronounced "Nigh-Kad"), used to be the most common type of laptop battery. Nickel cadmium batteries couldn't hold very much power by today's standards, and could only be charged a limited number of times. NiCad batteries could easily be ruined by being left on the charger after they had reached full charge, or by being recharged before they were completely dead. The latter problem, called the "memory effect," meant that if you recharged your laptop battery before it had run completely down, it would remember the point at which you put it back on the charger, and only discharge that far the next time you used it.

The nickel metal hydride (NiMH) laptop battery was the next step up from NiCad. NiMH batteries could hold considerably more power than NiCad, but they still had something of a memory effect -- although it wasn't as pronounced. Lithium ion (Li-Ion) is the latest technology for laptop batteries; although Li-Ion batteries hold about the same amount of power as NiMH, they are considerably lighter and far superior. The Li-Ion laptop battery doesn't have a memory effect and lasts considerably longer than its predecessors. If your laptop supports multiple types of batteries, and the Li-Ion is one of them, then you should choose the Li-Ion as the best type of battery available for your laptop.

Regardless of which type you have, it's important to properly care for your laptop battery, in order to get as much life out of it as possible. "Conditioning," which means fully discharging and then fully charging the battery, should be done at least every few weeks, as it maintains the full capacity of the laptop battery. Some authorities claim that this is not necessary with Li-Ion batteries, while others maintain that it's a good idea to condition all laptop batteries regularly, rather than simply leaving them plugged into the wall at all times. Your laptop battery should never be stored in an area that drops below 50ºF (10ºC) or rises above 95ºF (35ºC); this means that your laptop should not be left in the car or in a storage area that is not climate controlled. Also, for extended storage of six months or more, the laptop battery should be discharged to 50% capacity and removed from the computer; a battery stored for an extended period of time at full capacity may lose the ability to charge fully, while a battery stored in a fully discharged state may never be able to charge again at all.

How to Buy IBM Replacement Laptop Batteries

Posted by ibm123str | 29 Jul, 2010

It may sound very simple to purchase IBM replacement laptop batteries, but in order to make sure that the proper battery is purchased in the proper condition then it is essential to understand how to buy IBM/Lenovo replacement laptop batteries and what to look for. The battery is a very important part of a laptop, and if care is not taken in purchasing the right replacement battery then the laptop may not function properly or could get damaged. There are several things to take into consideration when purchasing IBM replacement laptop batteries, and it is important to make sure you cover all of your bases before you make a purchase.

BM Replacement Battery

When looking for IBM/Lenovo replacement laptop batteries, the natural place to start is the manufacturer. However, IBM stopped making many of its laptop computers many years ago and has sold those lines to a different manufacturer. In some cases IBM could still be the source for replacement laptop batteries, but it is important to remember that your model may be the responsibility of another manufacturer now, and finding the proper replacement battery may require looking for the proper company.

Many people are tempted to purchase IBM replacement laptop batteries directly from the manufacturer, and when it comes to playing it safe it is certainly hard to go wrong with purchasing a battery directly from the manufacturer. lenovo laptop battery many tips

Posted by ibm123str | 24 Jul, 2010

If you have never heard of Lenovo computers then you need to pay closer attention to the things that are going on in the computer world. Lenovo sounds familiar to the computer buyers of today because they are one of the largest personal computer manufacturers in the world but for people that have followed the personal computer business closely you may know Lenovo better by the name of the personal computer company it purchased a few years ago and that was IBM Personal Computers. Like IBM before them Lenovo is very strict on accessories for their notebooks and that goes for their batteries as well.

Lenovo ThinkPad T60 Laptop Battery

Have you ever stopped to wonder why you no longer hear the name IBM on television anymore when it comes to things like laptop computers and personal computers and small computers for business? The reason you do not hear the name IBM mentioned anymore is because in 2005 IBM sold off its personal computer division to a company out of China called Lenovo. In typical Chinese fashion Lenovo has avoided doing a lot of advertising here in the United States and relies heavily on the IBM brand and laptop computer models like the Thinkpad to be their source of advertising. If you do an internet search on the name Thinkpad you will find the Lenovo website and if you still want to purchase the IBM Thinkpad line of laptop computers then all you need to do is follow your internet search to the Lenovo website.

ThinkPad T42 Battery

There you will find the line of Thinkpad laptop computers but missing is the name IBM. Lenovo has only been on the world stage for a very short time and after already becoming the largest personal computer maker in China Lenovo has taken the first jump into the world stage with their acquisition of the IBM computer line which now makes them the fourth largest personal computer manufacturer in the world. While you may not be seeing a lot of Lenovo advertising on the television you will find a strong internet presence that supports the Thinkpad line of laptops with a full line of accessories including batteries.

Lenovo is in a unique position as they may either be the manufacturer of their laptop batteries or have direct access to the manufacturer which will allow them to have some very competitive prices for their laptop batteries. If you are looking to replace a Thinkpad battery that is starting to show signs of fading, or if you are looking to get a battery that has more capacity than your current battery, then the very first place you should look is on the Lenovo website. Do a search on the model of your Thinkpad and see what kind of results you get. The chances are very high that the prices you find for the Lenovo branded batteries will be very competitive even compared to the third party manufacturers which are normally very inexpensive in general.

how to reduce your laptop working heat

How to reduce your Laptop working Heat

There you have it – proof positive that using a notebook computer unprotected can burn your lap and other delicate parts. So what are we to do? Stop using our ThinkPad T21 notebooks? I don’t think so! There are ways to have safe computing, you know. But for the 65 million or so notebook users in america, the heat hazard poses an even greater threat to their computers. Over time, the heat source that burns our lap can have an equally devastating effect on the internal components of our notebook.

So how does one have safe computing without losing intimacy with our notebook, while also protecting it from overheating? The answer is obvious – use protection. What kind? Try a Google search with the keywords “Laptop Desk” or “Lap Desk” or “Lap Tray”. There you will find all kinds of protection for both you and your notebook. We plowed through the many listings and narrowed the field to nine products that should help you practice safe computing.

But before we get to the product comparisons, let us be clear that groin burns aren’t the only hazard that notebook users are susceptible to. There are other hazards—both to the user and the ThinkPad T22 battery notebook itself—that originate from two common notebook uses: Mobile use (on your lap) and stationary use (on your desktop).

Hazards When Using a Laptop on Your Lap:
Based on research conducted by LapWorks, Inc. (www.lapworksinc.com), two-thirds of all notebook owners reported using their notebooks while mobile more often than stationary. Which means that notebook (ThinkPad T23 battery, ThinkPad Z61e battery) owners prefer 2 to 1 using their notebook in their easy chair watching TV, in airline terminals, in hotel lobbies or in bed surfing the Internet, as opposed to desktop use. as we rove around using our notebooks in different ways, lap (or groin) burns are possible unless we use some form of protection.

a pillow is not a good choice. Many mobile users will sandwich a pillow between themselves and the notebook to protect their laps from “Hot Leg.” This comforts the user, but unfortunately does no favors for the IBM ThinkPad Z61p computer. The pillow acts as an insulator and contains the heat within the notebook, accelerating overheating. The notebook’s cooling fan then cycles on repeatedly ‘gasping for air’ until it shuts your computer down to protect itself from serious heat damage.

Finally, you could permanently damage your notebook with a fatal drop. a white paper study conducted by IDC (International Data Corp., a Framingham, Mass. research firm) concluded that 68% of all damage to IBM ThinkPad i1436 notebooks comes from being dropped. This includes sliding off the user’s lap and crashing to a hard and unforgiving floor. IDC further reported that in 2001, it cost businesses and industry over one billion dollars to repair broken notebooks, and replace them in some cases, totaling approximately $1,400 per incident.

Solutions to the Hazards of Lap Use:
Find a product with non-slip surfaces that spans your lap completely, can hold even the largest portable, and shields your lap from its blistering heat. Road warriors will also want something that’s lightweight, thin, and folds so it can easily fit in the computer bag.

To protect the computer from its own heat, find something with built-in ventilation channels that can actually reduce heat. You can reduce heat in two ways: convection (exchanging warm air for cool air) and conduction (transferring heat by contact from a warm surface to a cool surface). Look for products that reduce heat through convection or conduction or both as IBM ThinkPad A31 Battery.

Hazards When Using a Laptop on your Desk:
Strange as it may sound, the greatest risk of injuring yourself personally will most likely come when you use your notebook on a desktop over long periods of time. It is here that we risk injuring our neck and shoulders from hazards such as:

Lower than recommended viewing height of the notebook screen
Flat typing angle, or lack of incline of the notebook’s keyboard
Since most notebook computers are set flat on the desktop, their IBM ThinkPad g41 battery screen heights are all below the recommended, “ergonomically correct” viewing level. This means you must strain your neck to find information at the bottom of the screen, which can lead to more serious back problems over time. The recommended height for a computer screen is positioning the top of the screen at, or slightly below, eye level. This lets your eyes do the searching, instead of having to bend and strain your neck.

another hazard comes from the IBM thinkpad g40  battery notebook’s flat keyboard. In this position, we are forced to move our elbows away from our body to get our hands in the right position to type. Supporting our arms away from our body for long periods of time eventually strains the shoulders and back so that typing becomes tiring and more stressful.

The immediate effects of neck and back strain are discomfort and reduced productivity, but medical experts agree they can lead to more permanent health problems over time.

Solutions to the Hazards of Desk Use:
Ideally, the answer is to raise the back of the ibm thinkpad g40  notebook computer to such an angle that it will:

allow natural convection (and conduction if possible) to take place under the computer, reducing heat build-up and cooling your computer.
Raise the viewing screen height closer to eye level, reducing neck strain.
Put the keyboard in an incline allowing elbows to remain by your side in a more ergonomically comfortable typing angle.

Heat is Your Laptop’s Worst Enemy:
aside from the catastrophic crash to the floor, the greatest damage to IBM thinkpad a31 notebooks comes from poor ventilation that causes overheating. Eventually, this overheating causes permanent damage, shortening your notebook’s life.

Overheating is the result of the market’s competitive demand for the thinnest form factor and greater processing power. The solution? Find a product that can actually reduce the heat by as much as 15% to 20%, which means your notebook’s cooling fan won’t cycle on as often, and your notebook computer can live a longer, healthier life!

Conclusion:
There are products that address these hazards, each to a greater or lesser degree. Keep in mind that the hazards listed above are real and documented, not just sales hype. If you are a committed a31 battery notebook user, you’ll want to create the safest computing environment whenever and wherever you choose to use your notebook.

Give serious consideration to the below list of nine products and select the one that best meets your specific needs. and be careful out there . . . now that groin burns have been documented, you’ll want to use ibm a31  battery protection from now on so you can always practice safe computing.

How To take care your ibm laptop battery

Posted by ibm123str | 23 Jul, 2010

1.When using a new Lenovo laptop as a desktop replacement for the battery , do not be left in for long periods of time. The laptop will over time discharge the battery. Remove the ibm laptop  battery ,making sure that it is charged to 50% and store it in a dry ,warm place. Ensure that it is wrapped protectively and nothing will be dropped on it.

2.A lenovo battery should be re-installed every 3-4 weeks and allowed to fully discharge. Leaving a battery in storage for longer than this without using could cause the battery to fully discharge as the circuitry of the battery itself consumes power.

3.Leaving a lenovo battery in a laptop while using an electrical outlet for long periods of time will keep the battery in a constant state of charging up and that will reduce the life cycle of the laptop battery.
